The standard

This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. It doesn’t claim full conformance; the gaps it knows of are listed below.

What’s built in

Every chart has a text summary, and nearly every one has a table of its numbers that you can show and sort. Pages work with a keyboard alone, and they follow your system’s dark mode and reduced-motion settings and Windows high-contrast mode.

How it is tested

Automated checks (axe) run on every kind of page, in light and dark themes, at desktop and phone widths, each time the site changes. Keyboard paths are tested in Chrome. Before each launch the pages are also checked in Firefox and in Safari’s engine.

Known gaps

  • The details that appear when you point at a chart’s marks need a mouse or touch. A chart’s table, where it has one, holds the same numbers.
  • The automated contrast check can’t reach text drawn inside the charts, so that text rests on the site’s color choices rather than a test.
  • Where a wide table scrolls sideways, its right edge fades to show there is more. Text under the fade is lighter until you scroll.
  • On a phone, wide tables stack into cards. Their column names stay available to screen readers. That was checked in what browsers pass to screen readers, not yet with a screen reader itself.

Browsers

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Internet Explorer, and Edge’s Internet Explorer mode, are not supported.

Reporting a problem

If something here doesn’t work with the way you browse, say so through the feedback form (opens in a new tab): the page, what you were doing, and what you use (browser, screen reader, zoom).
